"Michelle Todd stood out for her lively stage presence, highly expressive face and delightful singing" THE TIMES (LONDON)
Hello and Welcome to my website.
Happy New Year. I can look back at 2017 with enormous pleasure as I performed in so many different styles and venues! Carnegie Hall was a thrilling start to the year and a great venue for a debut followed by a lovely concert in Bermuda. Another debut was a wonderful, happy and creative time performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival- 20 shows in 21 days. The summer also included a celebration of Canada's 150th birthday with a concert in London at St Martins in the Fields under the auspices of the Canadian high Commission. Another anniversary closer to home was my tenth appearance with the Scarborough Spa Orchestra and it is always fun to see the fans who faithfully support me every year.
2017/18 season started with the world premiere of a new historical play based on the life of Bess of Hardwick at the Derby Guildhall in September/October. The project had been four years in the making but I have been fascinated about this woman for many years. A contemporary and one time lady in waiting to Queen Elizabeth 1, Bess married four times, built some of England's finest houses and was arguably the wealthiest woman in the Elizabethan world. The play was written for me by award winning writer, Kevin Fegan and was directed by Rikki Tarascas with film elements by Will Simpson. I'm delighted to say that it was a critical success and a revival and tour is being planned.
I am delighted to announce that the DVD and CD of my debut at The Royal Albert Hall is now available from the All Souls Orchestra website. The title is Love Excelling and you can relive this extraordinary evening of beautiful music, worship songs and sing along with 6000 enthusiastic audience members. A thrilling evening!
A brand new 3 minute promotional video of extracts from The Tales of Beatrix Potter is now available to see on youtube: Michelle Todd performs The Tales of Beatrix Potter.
My interview in The Sondheim Magazine has now been added to the News/Info pages on this website. The magazine has iconic photos and articles from not only the London
production, in which I sang the role of Young Heidi, but also articles about the 2011 Broadway production.
A new video from the London Sinfonia promoting their wonderful family concert series is now playing on their website www.cityoflondonsinfonia.co.uk Open the Whats On page and you will find the video included on the Crash Bang Wallop! page. It was filmed live during our recent performance of The Tales of Beatrix Potter. This was my sixth performance with the orchestra and as in previous years, sold out. So we all had a lot of fun.
In other news, a recording of Canadian classical new music, in which I sing
as the vocal soloist with Calgary's Ensemble
Resonance, was nominated for Best Classical Recording at the 2011 WCMA Awards. The CD is titled "Electrospectives" and involves me singing in Portuguese, Chinese, English and even
Chinook wind!! The score for the duet, Shadows of an UncountedJourney for voice and violin by Hope Lee, is now available to purchase
from Furore Verlag, one of Germany's most prestigious publishers. You can hear some audio extracts from the CD on the recording pages of this website and it is also available to download at CD Baby and itunes. Ensemble Resonance has a new website and there are some interesting videos including our recent performance at the Western Canadian Music awards. www.ernewmusic.com
I am currently on the Board of the Canadian Voice Care foundation and have also been President of the Inter Mountain chapter of the National Association Of Singing Teachers. Information on these organisations can be found on their respective websites. Please
contact me directly for information about private
vocal lessons, adjudicating or masterclass presentations in Canada or
Thank you to The Mayor of Canmore, the Town Council and Arts committee for presenting me with the Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award. It was a delightful surprise and I extend my thanks to my family, friends, teachers, mentors, students, musical colleagues and the audiences who have supported me throughout my career.
I always enjoy receiving emails from visitors to my website and the comments about videos here and on youtube are especially appreciated. The response to Salaam (Nella) Fanatsia has been fantastic and I am happy to include it in as many concerts as possible.
In the meantime, if you are traveling in Alberta Canada, and visiting the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, you can experience a new high definition video called "Wildness Revealed" which surrounds the audience with stunning images of that beautiful environment and wildlife. My voice was used in the soundtrack and I was intrigued to hear how the various instruments and voice were mixed and transformed to complement the breathtaking images.
